Making Your Home Sing Or Sink??????
Welcome to the Making Your Home Sing Monday meme! Every day you are doing something to make your house into a home for yourself and your family (if you have one). My point with each Monday post is, what are you doing or going to do today to make your home sing?
It can be an attitude or an action. Motivation, our attitude, baking, encouraging our husband or children (if we have either one), organization, cleaning, saving money....the opportunities are endless.
I know tomorrow is Monday. I know it. But frankly I don't believe it. The weekend went too fast and I, for one, am not ready for Monday.
Monday, Monday, sometimes I dread you, sometimes you dread me. Can't we all just get along?
This weekend my oldest came home from college for a visit. While we were hanging out at Costco (where else?) he mentioned that his shoes had a hole in them and his socks got wet when it rained.
So, what do you suppose his mommy did? That's right, I bought him some shoes. He is a college student and he doesn't have any extra money, lol!
Both my sons are in college (one lives at home, one lives in another state) and they are relying on scholarships, college loans, money saved *before* they started college, and working their way through college. They take their schooling seriously, and for that I am thankful.
What if we worked at our homemaking that diligently?
What if we worked as hard at our homemaking as we would if we were graded on it? What grade would you get on your housecleaning skills? What grade would you get on your cooking? What grade would you get if you were graded on managing your home? Your children? Yourself? What about your job outside the home (if you have one)?
What if you were graded on your appearance? What grade would you get? Are you getting dressed every day or is every day "pajama day?" What grade would your bedroom get? Your bathroom? (Right now I think my bathroom would get a Pass but I'm thinking my bedroom would get a Fail.)
What grade would you get if you were graded on the amount of time you put into facebook or playing around on the computer?
Sometimes I think I'd get a 4.0 at goofing off. I aim to be so diligent at my homekeeping at the start of the day, and I have new recipes I want to try and by golly, I am going to mop that floor if it's the last thing I do.
Then somebody leaves a comment on my facebook status, or someone sends me an email or leaves me a comment on my blog. A favorite t.v. show comes on. My favorite magazine comes in the mail. A friend calls.
It sure is easy to get distracted when no one is standing over you, telling you to get to work, or you know you're not being graded on it.
Hmmmmmm, maybe we should pretend we're being graded on what we do and see if our homes are going to sing or sink!

It is so easy to lose focus. I actually went so far as to write a mission statement out for myself. I also had to start writing my goals. I do better with ideas than I do with actualities -- if I make a list of every task I get overwhelmed (i.e. wash dishes, clean counter, mop floor) ... but if I set my heart goals (have a clean kitchen so we can enjoy family dinner tonight) I do so much better. I'm learning to care more about the atmosphere than the technicalities and it's helping (although I still have days where my motivation switch seems stuck in the "off" position, lol). Have a GREAT week!
We are very limited on our internet time. One thing that I really considered to be a hindrance, I now consider a HUGE blessing. It is so easy to get sidetracked with blogging, Facebook, Twitter and the new evil, Pinterest. :) Just kidding, I really don't think Pinterest is evil, but it can suck away the time if I'm not careful. I'm really trying to be more mindful of keeping an orderly home, preparing nourishing meals for my family, giving my children and husband the attention they need instead of allowing myself to indulge in those distractions. Sometimes it's easy, other times, not so much. Have a great week- thanks for the link-up. :)
Those were some great thoughts!! Surely ones that I needed to hear for this week! Thanks for sharing.
